John Edmands was born on December 15, 1845 in North Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States, son of Samuel Sumner Edmands (1812–1901)^[1].

John (29) married Maria Claramond Goodwin (30) (born on January 1, 1845 in Reading, Massachusetts; daughter of Charles Henry Goodwin and Catherine Fosdick) on July 17, 1875 in Kalamazoo. Their children were:

• Samuel Sumner Edmands (1877–1938)
• Henry Goodwin Edmands (1881– )
• Horace Mathews Edmands (1883– )

John died on March 2, 1923 in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States, aged 77^[2]. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.^[3]
