Biography

Molly (Elliott) Simmons is a part of US Black heritage.

Mollie was born in 1880 in Franklin County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Lucy Elliott (1867-1912).

In 1895 Mollie married George Abel Simmons. Mollie and George had 12 children and raised them in Franklin County, Tennessee.

She passed away in 1951 and is buried at Farris Chapel Community Cemetery, Franklin County, Tennessee.

Research Notes

• Trees at other sites imply that her father is Peter Green a white neighbor a few doors away in the 1880 census. She is referred to as Mulatto on one census. The picture at FamilySearch also implies she is Mulatto. Her death certificate lists a Peter Green as her father.

• Mollie's father, One frequently found theory, Peter Green: The 1880 U.S. Census shows Mollie's mother, Lucy Elliott (1867-1912), age 15, living in Franklin, Tennessee with her mother and sister.^[1] Their race was "Black" and the mother, Careline was a widow. The family counted before them on the census record was the Green brothers. Their race was "White." Peter Green was a 34 year-old single farmer^[2] Mollie's usual but undocumented birth date is 26 March 1880. The census was collected in June of 1880 and Mollie was not included.

• Mollie Elliott's death record shows the father's name as Peter Green. No other appropriate time and place Peter Greens have been located yet.

• There were a number of "Green" families (Black and White) counted in Franklin County, Tennessee in 1880. No other Peter seen.

• Mollie was not noted as "Col" on one version of marriage record.[1] Everyone else on the page was. However, three other images related to their marriage show both as "Col."

• 1900 U.S. Census all members of the family have race of Black. Franklin County, Tennessee. Provided March 1880 for Mollie's birth.

• 1910 U.S. Census all members of the family have race of Black. Franklin County, Tennessee.

• 1920 U.S. Census husband George identified as Black, Mollie and the children were identified as Mulatto. Franklin County, Tennessee.

• 1930 U.S. Census all members of the family were identified as Black. Franklin County, Tennessee.

• 1940 U.S. Census all members of the family were identified as Black. Franklin, Tennessee.

• 1950 U.S. Census all members of the family were identified as Black. Mollie was a widow. Franklin County, Tennessee.
