Biography

Minerva was born in 1818 and passed away in 1902.

Minerva A Ellis was born about 1818 in Tennessee, parentage unknown, however census records indicate her father was born in NC and mother in VA.

Wilson County TN Marriage Bond #123 October 16, 1841 Samuel Cartwright to Manerva Ellis, Executed October 17, 1841. Samuel, Minerva and their children (James D 1842, Sarah Elizabeth 1844, and William Dennis 1847 along with the Francis and Jane Davidson Family (Samuel's daughter from 1st Marriage to Letty Moore) migrated to Butler County KY before 1850 and are found in the 1850 Census records along with a Robert Ellis, age 2 (relationship unknown).

Samuel and Minerva's 4th known child, Joseph Frazier was born 1852 in Butler County KY. Samuel Cartwright died June 14, 1856 and the families soon after moved on to Kansas/Missouri where the Cartwright Family is enumerated in 1860 Census in Boubon County KS with Davidson's in Bates County Missouri.

In Feb of 1879, Minivera claimed Civil War Pension upon death of son, James D Cartwright. Minerva continues to live near Barnesville KS with or near her children and their families until her death May 4, 1902.

According to a letter received 8/9/2010 from the Old Fort Genealogical Society of Southeastern Kansas, "Minerva A Ellis Cartwright died on May 4, 1902 and was buried on May 5, 1902 in West Liberty Cemetery in Bourbon County KS. She does not have a headstone so is not listed in the West Liberty Cemetery Book. The only way we know she is buried there is through the funeral home ledger sheet."
