I believe that this means that your great-grandmother was my grandmother's aunt. My grandmother was the baby of her family and the only one that is still living. Last year she went into assisted living and we are preparing her house to put on the market. She has given my mother and I all of her pictures and anything having to do with the family. (It's sad but no one else in the family wants them). 1 know that when Augusta first came to America she went to Minnesota to live with one of her sisters. I don't know if this was Anna Wilhelmina or Hilma Olivia. There she met my great-grandfather E.E. Englund who was also from Gokhem Sweden. He wrote in a small 4 page autobiography that it was so nice to meet her and catch up on news of family and friends from back home. They married in St. Paul in 1895. They lived for some time in Moline, Illinois before moving when my grandmother was small to Bellevue, Ohio. 1
Grandpa Englund left Sweden (along with his three brothers and a cousin) to avoid having to join the army. A new law was being passed that any male at the age of sixteen was going to have to serve in the army. The all left before it came to be. They changed their name from Swansson/Swensson to Englund to avoid detection. 1 Englund was an inventor and later in life named one of the fathers of modern farming. While in Moline he worked for the Sechler Carriage company and invented the Black Hawk corn planter. Sechler was bought out by the Ohio Cultivator Company and Grandpa moved to Bellevue, Ohio to oversee the manufacturing of the Black Hawk and to work on new inventions. This is where my Grandmother, Parents, and other relatives still live today. I have never heard any particular reason why the Larsons came to America. 1
My Grandmother is 90 and still quite sharp. We have asked her questions as we have been going through all the papers and pictures. If you give me your mailing address I am more than willing to make copies and send what I have to you. Currently this is what I know for sure that I have that might interest you:
Lars Olsson's death notice from Sweden (in Swedish) A Letter from Aunt Mathilda telling Grandma Englund of Lars death (in Swedish) Matilda and her husband Husband John's obituary and funeral service programs from Sweden (written in Swedish) Grandma Englund's transfer papers to come into America (in Swedish) One of Grandma Englund's report cards (in Swedish) A postcard showing the church that the Larson's attended in Sweden A picture of Uncle Adolph and his daughter Hanna. 1
There are more photos yet at my parents house that I know have family members from this side in them. I know for sure that there are pictures of June Anderson who I think is probably more closly related to you. Grandma remembers her fondly and I also have a letter that she wrote to Grandma. I think that there are also photos of Hilma and John Swanson as well. 1
Their were 13 years in between Grandma Tea and the next oldest sibling. She only knows a few words in Swedish as Grandma and Grandpa Englund didn't speak it around the house after she was born. Grandma Tea has two middle names because Grandma Englund let her two daughters (23 and 20 when Grandma Tea was born) pick a middle name for her. They couldn't decide so she has two. Eventually she also had two neices named after her: Elizabeth Joyce and Maurene May. 1
I am going to my parents house tomorrow for a party (I live about an hour away) and will go through some of the pictures and see what other tidbits I can find. 1
Your cousin,.
