Biography
George was born Valentine’s Day in 1843 while his family was living in Marbletown.
He waisted no time when the call for soldiers was heard and on the 5 Sep 1861 he went to Kingston, New York and enlisted in the 80th New York Infantry. He was mustered into Company D as a private on the 18 Sep 1861 for a three year term. Listed as deserted but later was listed in hospital.
A few years later on 12 Feb 1864 he was mustered in the 22nd New York Calvary as a wagoner at McDonough for a three year term. He was placed in Company L and mustered out with the company on 1 Aug 1865 at Winchester, Virginia.
In 1880 we find him farming in Lexington, New York with a family of four, himself, his wife Bridget, daughter Mary and newly born son William.
On the 20 May 1891 he filed for an Invalid Pension and listed the reason as Rheumatism.
