John died an accidental death on 6 November 1860 and was buried in the Angaston Old Pioneer Cemetery, Angaston, South Australia, Australia.[2] John was a sheep farmer who died "through the accidental upsetting of his cart, and injuries received in trying to free himself from the same" .."It is surmised that the unfortunate man was asleep in his cart when the wheel sticking a tree upset the vehicle.. Mr Ferrett was an old settler in this district, and has left a wife and a young family..."[3]

The John who arrived in New South Wales on arrived on 5 December 1838, is not this John. That John is the son of Harry Ferrett, Farmer and the husband of Mary Roberts[4][5]
