William Firestone was born in January 1834 in Portland Mills, IN,[1] a once-thriving city on the line between Parke and Putnam counties.
In 1850, he was working as a farmer in Greene Township, Parke Co., IN. He lived with his parents and several siblings.[2]
He married Louisa Inge in Clarke County, IL, on July 26, 1858.[3] In 1860, they lived in Union Township, Parke Co., IN. Louisa is listed as 16 years old. William was 26 and a farmer.[4]
Louisa and William had a son, Theodore, around 1861.[5] A second son, George, followed in 1869.[6]
In 1866, William was listed in an IRS Tax Assessment List, indicating that he was a retail dealer in Portland Mills.[7]
In 1870, William was working as a carpentar while living in Union Township, Parke Co., IN. He and Theodore had moved in with William's parents. [8]
In April 1878, William remarried Margaret McClain.[9] By 1880, they had moved into their own home in Union Township, Parke County, IN. William listed farmer and carpenter as his jobs. The Census also lists a 16-year-old son named Quincy, who has not appeared on previous censuses.[10]
In the 1900 Census, William is listed as a painter. He and Margaret lived in Adams Township, Parke Co., IN.[11]
His son Theodore died May 23, 1901, and was buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery.[12]
William died Sept. 4, 1906, of pulmonary tuberculosis. His death certificate lists his parents as Isaac Firestone and Elizabeth Brough.[13] He is likely buried in Newport Cemetery (also known as Thomas Cemetery) in Newport, IN.[14]

Warren Firestone was listed in the 1893 marriage records for his son George L. Firestone to Myrtle Atkinson.[16]

Research Notes
Several other sources suggest that William Firestone is George's father, including on George's death certificate.[6]
Profile orginally stated Warren was born in 1849. I have not been able to find additional evidence about a Warren Firestone beyond the marriage certificate, which also included a likely misspelled version of George's mother's name. I have update the profile to match information for William Firestone based on a number of records. Martin-87417 02:40, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
