Biography

No verifiable information regarding Josiah Foster's parents. However, he may be from the Foster Family of Burlington,New Jersey, a Quaker family. Most likely, he is one of the sons of Joseph Foster (Foster-321) and Christiana Vandegrift. (Joseph was baptized and married Christiana Vandegrift in Philadelphia, moved to Abington,PA, then moved to Bensalem Township.) Alternatively, he might be the son of Josiah Foster (Foster-6124) and Amy Borden. (Familysearch shows a son named Josiah born on 8/15/1720 in Evesham,NJ, but no citeable sources.) DNA matches indicate relationships to three separate children of Joseph Foster and Christiana Vandegrift, Esther, George and Margaret.

Byberry Monthly Meeting records indicate he was "Killed by a wagon" on the 3rd day of the 2nd month of 1764. He was a resident of Lower Dublin Township, Philadelphia County. Probate records indicate he was a weaver by trade and was survived by his widow, Anne and three children.

In addition to the three children indicated in the probate records, the Christiana Boozer bible indicates their second child "Foster Was Born January 1754 departed this Life 1759". No name or sex for this child is indicated.
