Biography

Elsie (Fredericksen) Shearer was born in South Elgin, Kane Co., IL on 10 Nov 1909, the daughter of Jens and Mette (Jensen) Fredericksen.^[1][2] She was one of twins, but her sister Alice died at birth. Elsie was married to Melvin Delbert Shearer on 11 Dec 1932 in Elgin, Kane Co., IL.^[3] She died 27 Nov 2003 in Elgin, and was buried in Bluff City Cemetery. ^[4][5] She and her husband had two children: Pamela Anne and Susan Lorelei.

The following was written by her daughter:

"Elsie and her brothers and sisters attended Hopps School. They had to walk a mile and a half to the one-room schoolhouse. Elsie graduated from the eighth grade and went on to attend Business School, but soon had to drop out of her classes, as her mother became very ill. She had to remain at home and help out with the cooking, laundry and other chores around the house while also taking care of her mother. Several of the other children went on to high school and graduated."^[6]
