Frances (Gaskell) Shellam was born in Bredbury, Cheshire, England.

Although no birth or baptismal records found, census reports indicate Frances was born in 1849 in Bredbury, Cheshire, England. She was the daughter of John Gaskell and (Unknown). Frances married Wright Mallinson in 1870.[1] The ceremony was performed on June 26th at Manchester Cathedral.[2] According to the Parish Register, Fanny was a twenty two year old spinster residing at 13 Tollbar Street (Hyde Road). Her father was named as John Gaskell, "Tailor". Wright was a twenty two year old bachelor and "Baker" residing at 13 Tollbar Street (Hyde Road). His father was named as James Mallinson, "Dyer". The couple would have two children before Wright's death.

Wright passed away in 1873. Frances married William Henry Shellam in 1877.[3] The marriage was registered in the second quarter in Chorlton, Lancashire. Fanny and William were enumerated in the 1881 census [4] residing at 6 Milton Street, Gorton, Lancashire. Fanny's two children from her first marriage, James Henry and Martha Mallinson at residence noted as step children. Two children from her second marriage, John Williiam and Ann Shellam also at residence. Fanny and William remained on Milton Street through 1891.[5] There were now five Shellam children ages twelve to two plus two Mallinson children, eighteen and twenty. In 1901, [6] the family was residing at 22 Roberts Street, Gorton. Five children, ages twenty two to twelve at residence. (Her two children from first marriage not at residence).

Frances passed away in 1902. [7] Her death was registered in the first quarter in Chorlton.
