Biography

Francis Geer died young.

Francis was born in 1909. He was the son of Frank Henry Geer and Gertrude Melanson.

In 1910 at New London Ward 4, Connecticut, George F. Geer age 0 was living with his widowed grandmother Lena Geer age 50, his aunt Hattie Geer age 24, his father Frank Geer age 22, his mother Gertrude Geer age 22 and 3 boarders.^[1]

In 1920 at New London, Connecticut, George F. Geer age 10, was living with his parents Frank H. Geer age 32 and Gertrude Geer age 31 and 6 siblings: Norman Geer age 9, Marjorie Geer age 7, Arthur E. Geer age 6, Harold Geer age 4, Doris Geer age 3 and Cleveland Geer age 0. Also living with him was his widowed grandmother Lena Geer age 64. ^[2]

He passed away in 1920.

The medical examiner's report said that Francis accidentally drowned in the Thames River and the body was found in the town of Groton. The report says that he was in a canoe with his comrades on April 30th and somehow he fell overboard and drowned because he could not swim. Search parties were looking for him for a month in efforts to recover his body.^[3]

The recollection by Arthur Geer as told to Ralph Geer is that Francis was delivering newspapers across the Thames River when a squall came up and that is how he drowned.

Geo. Francis Geer is buried in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery in Groton, New London, Connecticut next to his sister Florence G.^[4]
