Biography

Ezekiel was born in 1838. He passed away in 1928. ^[1]

Mr. [Ezekiel] Getchell’s parents left Maine in the early fall of 1838 intending to go West. They stopped on their way at Andover, New Hampshire, where on October 20, 1838, Mr. Getchell was born. Later they came to Buffalo, and it being mid-winter they gave up their trip to the far West, and moved to West Falls, N.Y., when he was six months old. He moved with his parents to Colden in which town he resided until his death. On his father’s side, Mr. Getchell’s ancestor piloted [Benedict] Arnold through the wilderness to make an attack on Quebec. On his mother’s side, he was a descendant of John Locke who came over in the Mayflower. When a young man, he took an active part in politics being a staunch Democrat, and for many years served the town as Justice of the Peace. ^[2]
