Hershel Benton McMillan Gibbs was born on September 6, 1888 in Smith, Tennessee, United States, son of Richard Clay Gibbs (1841–1888) and Tennessee Waggoner (1849–1914).
Hershel (20) married Lela Arizona Knight (20) (born on May 22, 1889 in Smith; daughter of Ridley Clay Knight and Nancy Jane (Petty) Knight) on July 31, 1909 in Smith. [1]
Hershel died on April 30, 1944 in Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee, aged 55.[2][3]
