Biography

Sarah Ann Gilson was born on January 5, 1821 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine.^[1]

At 17, she married Daniel Wheeler Dyer (1811-1870) on ca June 27, 1838 in Maine. They had 8 children.

2. Emelina "Lena" Abbie Dyer) Gerrish (1844-1920)
3. Thirza Helen Dyer (1847-1936)
4. Agnes Maria Dyer (1847-1936)
5. Wheeler Daniel Dyer (1850-1930)
6. Carrie Eva Dyer (1852-1935)
7. Sarah Elzina Dyer (1856-1947)
8. Maggie Jane Dyer (1858-1865)

They moved to Illinois by about 1845, and lived in Milton, DuPage, Illinois in 1850, where Daniel (age 39) was farming, and Sarah (age 28) was taking care of the home and chldren, Emelina-7, Therza-5, Angnes-3, and 3 month old Wheeler.^[2]

Her husband Daniel Wheeler passed away on March 19, 1874, in Wheaton, Illinois, at the age of 58. They had been married 31 years. She was age 49 when he died.

She lived with her family members after her huspand's death.

Widowed age 58, she lived with her daughter Thirza Michael and family in West Creek, Lake Indiana then in 1880.^[3]

At age 99, she was living with her daughter Agnes and husband, David Root in Center Twp., Lake, Indiana.^[4]

She died at the age of 99, on October 17, 1920 in Crown Point, Lake, Indiana,^[5] and was buried in the Maplewood Historic Cemetery.^[1]
