Biography

Susan was born in 1817.[1] A newspaper article attached to her Find-a-Grave Memorial informs us of the following: She was the daughter of Samuel Gordon, originally of Scotland but at the time of her birth - a resident of Liverpool, England. Her mother was Mrs. Agnes Knox of Culpepper County, Virginia. Her father moved to Virginia during her childhood and in 1846 she married Major Dabney of Albemarle County, Virginia which has since been her home. Her oldest son Basil was killed at the age of 17 on General Lee's retreat to Appomattox. Her second son, Dr. William C. Dabney was an esteemed medical professor at the University of Virginia and died about five years ago. Her children surving her are Walter D. Dabney, Marian - wife of John B. Moore, and Dr. S. Gordon Dabney of Louisville, Kentucky. She passed away in 1899.[2]
