Biography

Stephen Graczyk was born on 24 July 1908 in Buffalo, New York[1]. He was the son of Polish immigrants Walenty Graczyk and Anna Piasecka.

Growing up, he was a milkman and dairy farmer. According to one of his daughters, he would deliver milk from his family's farm in Lancaster to the city of Buffalo[2]. One of the families he delivered to was the Iglinski family, and he took a particular liking to Frances. In those days, typically the oldest daughter was first to court, while Frances was the 2nd eldest to her sister Sophie, but the parents agreed nonetheless and not long after they were engaged[2].

Stephen married Frances Iglinska on 22 August 1936 at the Holy Mother of the Rosary Cathedral. Together they had the following children:

  1. Stephen
  2. Norman
  3. Lucille
  4. Diane
  5. Shirley Ann

Stephen, Frances and their first two children are living at 25 Wasmuth St. in Buffalo on the 1940 Census[3]. The elder Stephen's occupation is listed as Carman Helper (Steam Railroad).

He worked for many years on the railroad and eventually opened a hardware store with his wife on Eggert Road in Amherst.

He died on 12 April 1980 in Buffalo and was buried at the Holy Mother of the Rosary Cemetery in Cheektowaga[4].

DNA

Two of Stephen's children took an AncestryDNA test. Multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren also DNA tested. These tests confirmed Stephen's parents[5], with connections on both his paternal[6] and maternal[7] lines.
