Thomas and Mary were married in Jefferson County, TN. there is a note on the back of the marriage record for Thomas and Polly, which stated that a copy of the marriage bond should be sent to James Griffin in Paris Tennessee and dated 9-24-1853. Most likely they needed a copy of the record in Paris TN because of an estate settlement or something of that nature.

Will: written on April 22, 1839 and recorded on June 16, 1839 I Thomas Griffin of the County of Henry and State of Tennessee, calling to mind that it is appointed to man once to die, do make ordain constitute and appoint this my Last Will and testament making void all others that I may have heretofore made ordained, constituted or appointed. First of all I give my sole up to god that gave it to me and my body to my friends to be decently buried at the expense of my estate. Secondly I do make ordain constitute and appoint my beloved wife Mary Griffin my ...... and only Executrix. Thirdly I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Griffin the full and proper use and benefit and title to all my Estate during her natural life or her widowhood, That is to say after all my just debts is paid and all my accounts closed and all Legal Legitimate heirs of my body shall receive of my estate the sum of Five Dollars each that.
After naming all of the Legal Legitimate heirs of my body and the several sums ........ there names as above stated then the balance of my estate consisting on one tract of land on where we now live with all the advantages there unto belonging to or appertaining together with my stock consisting of Horses, Cattle, Hogs, and Sheep, Household and Kitchen furniture and farming utensils with all and the singular advantages that belong to my estate to have for herself for her benefit and for her disposal and for enjoyment during her natural life and at her death or marriage then the estate is to be sold and equally divided with the above named heirs of my body signed sealed and delivered on the twenty seconded day of April and in the year of our lord one thousand Eight Hundred and thirty nine in the presence of us: Thomas Griffin Witnesses: James Harden, Willie Willeford Junior, Henry .. Note -source book Hill family- This Thomas Griffin is related to Eliza Griffin that married Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston A family tradition has a story that Daniel Anderson Hill knew General Johnston and when there was a rumor of his death at the Battle of Shiloh, DA Hill was compelled to search for the body since he personally knew him.
