Biography
Benjamin was born in 1764.
He married Jean Rankin in 1792 in Lincoln County, NC. [1]
He was a stone or brick mason. He appeared many times in the court records of Mecklenburg County usually for jury duty, but also once to have an apprentice bound to him to "learn the secrets of the stone mason's trade". He was also called upon as a kind of deputy sheriff, and was once asked to head a committee to assess and repair the county jail. He owned 200 acres on the east side of the Catawba at Tuckaseegee Ford.[2]
He died in 1826 and is buried at Goshen Prebyterian Cemetery in Belmont, NC.[3]
His estate was probated in 1826 and his brother-in-law James Rankin was appointed guardian of his son Ephraim who was not yet of legal age.[4]
