Biography

Richard was a member of the Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain

Richard James Thomas Hatton, the son of William and Ann Hatton, was born on 19 April 1804 and baptised on 8 January 1805 in Manchester, St Mary, St Denys and St George.[1]

Richard became a member of the The Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain on the Add Date as confirmed in the Society's book, “Members of The Royal Society of Musicians 1738-1984” on Page 69

The following was written by Richard on his recommendation paper at the time of his application and is included in the members handbook.

Performs on the Violoncello & Piano Forte, is engaged at the Theatre Royal Covent Garden as Principal Violoncello is a single man (Resigned 1876)

Richard James William Thomas Hatton married Sarah Ensor, the widowed daughter of Edward Bent, on 29 December 1840 in Saint John The Evangelist, Lambeth: Waterloo Road, Lambeth[4] and their marriage was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1840 in the Lambeth district.[5]

Sarah died in 1843.

He then married Frances Sarah Osborn, widowed daughter of Sir Richard Burton on 28 September 1852 on Saint Mary At Lambeth: Lambeth Road, Lambeth[6] and their marriage was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1852 in the Lambeth district.[7]

Richard James Thomas Hatton died on 21 January 1879 in Twickenham, Middlesex, he was buried on 27 January 1879 in St Mary the Virgin, Twickenham, Richmond Upon Thames and his estate passed probate on 6 February 1879 in Principal Registry.[8][9] Richard's death (age 74) was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1879 in the Brentford district.[10]

  1. Richard's Father's name: is clearly written William Hatton in the baptism PR. In the marriage PR's his father is John Hatton (gentleman) and Richard has added William to his middle names.
