Arthur was born in 1887 in Sydney, NSW # 110/1887. He married Millicent Agnes Brown on 8th November, 1919 at St. Peters, NSW NSW BDM ref # 14461/1919. They had 3 children, Arthur Owen, b. 9-12-1920, Phoebe Millicent Agnes, b. 7-16 1924 , and Kenneth Noel, b. 10-26-1926. He died at Newtown, NSW on 12-20-1950, NSW BDM ref # 25966/1950. ( aged 64 years SMH 21 December, 1950). He was the son of William Hawkings and Phoebe Jane Radmore.
