Biography

Partin Calvin Haywood was born about 1784/85 in Montgomery County, NC. He is the 5th in line of our known ancestral progenitors here in America. The formulation of this family history concentrates on his descendants plus those of his younger brother George Braddock Haywood.

It is believed that Partin was named after an early day Virginia family that were close neighbors and associates of the early day Haywood family. It is believed that that a daughter of George Haygood, Jr. married into the Partin family.

Partin first married about 1804 in Montgomery County, NC. Some family researchers say that his first wife was a Batton (Batten), but no evidence to support this assumption has been found, or is likely to be found as the court house in Montgomery County burned in 1893 losing all vital records. His first wife died about 1810 and is evidently interred on the old Bird Haywood Plantation. He had only two known surviving issues by this marriage.

Partin evidently married a second time in Montgomery County, NC., name of wife unknown, about 1814. This wife evidently came to Carroll County, TN with Partin and family and deceased about 1830, Carroll County, TN. He had 5 known issue by this marriage.

It is believed that Partin in company with many other families from Montgomery County, NC came to TN about 1825/26 as he is shown on the 1830 TN census. Partin evidently married a third time about1833 in Carroll County, TN. The name of this wife is unknown, but it is believed that she died during childbirth in 1835. A daughter resulting from this marriage survived.

On March 25, 1846, Partin took out a license to marry Fanny Taylor in Carroll County, TN., but this marriage was never consummated as it was labeled "No Return." Partin did marry a 4th time as he entered into a marriage contract with a widow Eunice Tubbs on March 10, 1848 in Decatur County, TN. This contract specified that each marriage partner would retain their own private properties should they part or one deceased. He did marry Eunice as he is shown living with her and two of her children in the 1850 TN census. In the 1860 census Eunice is found to be living back in Decatur County and is shown as "Head of Household." Partin is shown living with his daughter Cary Haywood Edwards and is listed as a "Pauper." He evidently deceased shortly thereafter as he is not found in the 1870 census. It is believed that he and his three wives that expired in TN are interred in the old Haywood Cemetery that is now called the Hedge Cemetery. Partin was truly an early day pioneer to move to an untamed country such as western TN in that early era. It is believed that he and his brother George Braddock left Montgomery County as they were not able to share in the Bird Haywood estate.
