The biography for James Henderson is empty. What can you add? James is a veteran. He served in the United Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He attended Florida State University and received a Bachelors and Masters degree in Meteorology. James also attended the University of Oklahoma where he worked on his PHD but did not finish his dissertation, He was employed at the National Severe Storms Laboratory as a research meteorologist in Norman, Oklahoma. He worked as a forecaster in the National Weather Service at the Birmingham Alabama forecast Office. He was in charge of the radar program for the National Weather Service Central Region in Kansas City Missouri. He was a supervisor with the National Severe Storms Forecast Center in Kansas City Missouri where he was in charge of issuing severe thunderstorm and tornado watches for the contiguous 48 states. He served as the Meteorologist in Charge of the San Francisco Forecast Office in Redwood City California. He was also the Area Manager of of 13 weather offices in northern California and was the Director of the Eastern Pacific Hurricane Center. He was the deputy director of the Central Region of the National Weather Service. He was the Deputy Director of the National Severe Storms Forecast Center where he was in charge of the operational forecasting for both severe storms and aviation. He was the deputy director of the Aviation Weather Center in Kansas city Missouri where he oversaw the operational forecast and warning program for both domestic and international aviation forecasting. James retired from the National Weather Service in 2003 with 41 years of service. He began working in private industry where he helped write plans for improvements of several nations aviation program including the Civil Aviation Program in Colombia South America, he also worked with the civil aviation programs in Uganda and Ghana. He developed a training program for the Civil aviation program in Taiwan, and worked several years training the aviation forecasters in China. James worked at a teacher and lecturer for FEMA instructing first responders and administrators on Severe Storms, Winter Weather and Flooding. His final job was working for Colorado State University's Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA. He retired from that job in January 2021. This gave him 60 years working in meteorology.
He is married to Barbara Givens Henderson. They have two children (one is living), five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He resides in Kearny Missouri and is now back working full time on genealogy. He has five trees on Ancestry.Com including the William Henderson family, the James Givens family, the David Clements family, the George Buchowski (Burjoski) family and the john fuller family.
