Biography

William was born in 1810 in County Galway, Ireland. He emigrated to the United States in 1829. William married Eleanor O'Birne in 1840.^[1] They had a large family. He died in Ohio in 1905 at the great age of 95 years.

William Hinde Dead: was one of Erie County's Oldest and Best Known Men

Wm. Hinde, Sr., died at his residence in Huron township, at 11:30 Thursday night, aged 95 years. He was the father of James J. Hinde, of this city; also of George and William, jr., and Miss Mary Hinde, of Huron. Deceased was one of Erie county's oldest and best known residents. The funeral announcement will be made later.

and Father of James J. Hinde of This City -

Well Known as a Contractor, Years Ago

William Hinde, Sr., one of the oldest and best known residents of the county died Thursday at midnight at his home in Huron township at the advanced age of 97 [95] years. He is survived by three sons James J. Hinde president of the board of public service of this city; George and William, of Huron and one daughter Mary who lived with her father on the old homestead.

Mr. Hinde was one of the pioneer residents of the county. He came to this country with his parents from Ireland while he was yet a lad. The family settled in Huron township living upon the old home place ever since. Hr. Hinde was well known in this section of the state as a contractor and builder. His work carried him out of the state also. He was one of the builders of the famous Monroe piers at Monroe, Mich.

He was very active despite his advanced age and seemed perfectly well up to within 36 hours of his death when he suffered a stroke of apoplexy. He was surrounded by his sons and daughter when death came. The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

The Hinde Funeral

The funeral of William Hinde sr. who died Thursday night will be held Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the residence in Huron township and at 3 o'clock from Sts Peter and Pauls church in this city. Rev. Father Horst of Huron officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph's cemetery.

Wm. J. Hinde - Died at 12:10 a.m., July 28, 1905

Wm. J. Hinde was born in County Galway, Ireland, in 1810 and was a son of Thomas and May (Galway) Hinde. Mr. Hinde's father died in 1824 and left a family of ten children. In 1827 three of the brothers, Patrick, James and Edward came to America, and in 1829 Mrs. Hinde and the seven remaining children came and settled in Huron, Erie county.

William on arrival in New York, apprenticed to the looking-glass frame-making trade and in 1833 came to Huron. He married in 1840 Eleanor O'Berne, who was born in Carlow, Ireland in 1823. They have had a family of nine children, four of whom are now living, Mary A., James J., George F. and William J.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m., from Sts. Peter and Paul's church. Interment at St. Joseph cemetery.
