"James Madison Hinkle Sr., was born on January 4, 1831 in Buncombe County, North Carolina son of William & Susannah "Treadway" Hinkle. Served in The Civil War: CO. E. 32ed Kentucky Vol. Infantry Regiment, from December 24, 1862 to August 12, 1863. James married Delia "Dilley" Davis, daughter of Jobe Broughton Davis (mother unknown Jobe had three other wives after Delia's mother) on June 26,1850,they had eleven childern.
Childrens names are order of birth: Mary Elizabeth, Peter(my GG grandfather), Elisha, Martha Ellen, Lewis, Susan Ann, Thomas Andrew & Permelia (twins), James Madison Jr., Amanda Catherine and Francis Elizabeth. After her death April 7, 1881 at her home on Piney Grove Road. James married Mary "Polly" Taylor which James and Polly "Taylor" Hinkle gave the land for the Church and Cemetery to be built. James Madison Sr. and some of his childern are buried at the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery."
