William D. Hodgins was born about 1830 in Campbellton, Restigouche County, New Brunswick, Canada. Name: William Hodgins.[1]

William married Eliza Sarah Ross on June 9, 1857 at St Marys, York, New Brunswick, Canada. Their wedding event was witness by William Ross and Sarah Ann Baxter and performed by Peter Keag. Their marriage was filed and registered at Bureau de Santé, Frédéricton on September 14, 1857.

In the 1861 Census of Canada, William and Eliza are living in York, New Brunswick. Their household of five (5) included: self; wife Sarah Eliza; daughter Anne Eliza; son Daniel Ross; and son James McLaggan. William is indicated as a Farmer and Laborer. In his daughter's, Anna E.'s, death certificate, her father, William's occupation is described as a "lumberman," and both her parents identified as being born in New Brunswick.

In the 1871 Census of Canada, William and Sarah Eliza's household in the parish of St. Marys, York, New Brunswick, included self; Sarah (wife); Anna (age 13); Daniel (age 12); James (age 10); Joseph (age 8); John (age 6); Charles (age 4); George (age 2); and Marshall (age 1 month). William's "Origin" is described as "Irish" and Sarah's as "Scotch." William's occupation is described as "Lumberman." Their religious preference is presented in the Census as "Weslyan Methodist."

In the 1881 Census of Canada, William and Sarah E.'s household in Douglas, York, New Brunswick included: self; Sarah E. (wife); Anna E. (age 23); Daniel (age 21); James M. (age 21); Joseph E. (age 17); John (age 15); Charles (age 13); George (age 11); William [Marshall ?] (age 9); Frederic (age 7); and Margaret (age 5). Also residing in their household is James McPherson (age 81).

William passed away, leaving his wife a widow, at the age of 55 (per gravestone inscription) on April 6, 1890 in Tay Creek, York County, New Brunswick, Canada. He is buried at St. James Anglican Church Cemetery in Tay Creek. Eliza S. died at the age of 86 in Brewer, Maine on August 3, 1915. Eliza had been living in Brewer since about 1895, calculated from her death record, which reported that she had been a Brewer resident for 20 years from date of her death.
