Biography

Shirley Margaret was born in April 1930 in Mortlach, Saskatchewan. She was the daughter of Arthur Garfield Hodgins and Hestor Elizabeth Ward. She took her nurses training in Winnipeg. In 1951 she started working as a registered nurse at Lanigan Hospital. Shirley met Donald 'Bud' Guenther and they married in February 1955. They raised their five children in Lanigan. She continued to work at the hospital while supporting her children's activities at school and in the community. Shirley encouraged their children to sing as a family and to sing and perform in plays at school. She sewed many figure skating costumes and attended many baseball and hockey games. She sang in church choirs. Shirley retired from nursing in 1995. Shirley passed away in May 2005 in Lanigan and was buried there in Lanigan Cemetery.
