Biography

Johannes was born about 1705, designated as from "H. Duits'l^:", which most likely means either in the extreme east of the Netherlands or in a German principality in a Hochdeutsch-speaking region, perhaps below the Benrath or Gemersheim Lines, as "High Germany" traditionally refers to alpine Germany. He had two wives, the second being Margariet Anhuijs/Anhuizen, whom he married at the Dutch Reformed Church of New York. Johannes and Margariet had two children, Catharina (Hofman) Oosterhout, and Johannes Hofman.
