Finding Mary's parents: Mary and Eliza had a brother Thomas Holt (parents Thomas Holt and Elizabeth Ellis) as shown by these biographical details for Thomas Jr mentioning Eiza's husband Edward Joy: "1858 - In partnership with brother-in-law Edward Joy, Holt bought 30,000 acre - 47sq mile ‘Bungaban Back’ in Leichhardt district Qld." "Holt and his brother-in-law Edward Joy bought the mortgage on Wealwandangie property near Rockhampton in Qld." " Joy sold his interest to Holt in 1870."[7] Brother Thomas was a Wool Merchant out of Leeds, and travelled extensively and after 1843 was based in Australia. This brother later returned to England and devoted himself to the poor of London and the Salvation Army, and helped the work of Rev. A. Mearns and Dr Barnardo[8], similar to work that Mary Holt's brother-in-law Edward Joy did in Australia (The Ragged School).
