Biography

Stephen Hosmer was born 1645 in Hartford, CT, the only son of Thomas Hosmer. He was a member of the Congregational Church and a farmer, and he married Hannah Bushnell about 1668-70 in Hartford.[1] Their children were:

  4. Dorothy, b. 1674, m. Joseph Skinner, d. bef. 1707/08
  5. Thomas, b. 1675, m. Ann Prentiss, d. 1732
  6. Stephen, b. 1679, m. Sarah Long, d. 1749
  7. Hester, b. 1679, m. Nathaniel Pitkin, d. 1709
  8. Sarah, b. 1681, d. 1685
  9. Mary, b. 1684, m1. Nicholas Olmsted, m2. John Goodwin, d. 1760
  10. Deborah, b. 1687, m. Richard Olmsted, d.1716
  11. Clemence, b. 1691, m. Nehemia Olmsted, d. 1755

Stephen died 04 Nov 1693 in North Hampton, MA and was buried in Hartford.[2] [3]

Hosmer, Stephen sen., & Deacon. Died 4 November, 1693. Invt. £1820-11-00. Taken 2 January,1693-4, by John Wilson, Thomas Bunce & Cyprain Nichols. The children: Hannah Post, age 23 years, Dorothy 20, Thomas 18, Stephen & Hester (twins) 14, Mary 9, Deborah 7, Clement,3 years of age. Will dated 2 November 1693.

I Stephen Hosmer of Hartford do think meet to make my last Will & Testament: I give to my wife 1-3 part of the Rent of my Land at Hartford during life, and the use of 2 rooms in my house during Widowhood, and I give her £50 of Household Stuff to be at her dispose. I also give her my coper Stell and worm, and desire her to Stell it out of the house, especially if she see itt he like to hee a snare or temptation to her son Thomas. I also appoint her sole Executrix until my son Thomas cometh of age. I give to my eldest daughter Hannah Post i120, part of which I have already paid. I give to the rest of my daughters, Dorithe, Hester, Mary, Deborah and Clemont, i100 to each of them. I give to my son Stephen my Lott on the West side of the Wethersfield Highway, by Samuel Wheeler's, & 6 acres of my Land in the Meadow, half my Land in the 40 acres (when his brother Thomas hath had a third part which his gr. father gave him) ; also I give him one peice of Land at my Saw Mill, on the south side of the Mill, West and North on the West North River, and South on Mr. Hooker's Land; also, if he settle his abode in this towne, I give him 1 1/2 acre of Land in my Home lott to build upon (on the south side next Goodman Whaples) ; and if he desire to be brought up to Learning, I give him i20 in Money towards it. The rest of the Charge about it shall come out of his land, which his Brother Thomas shall have liberty firstly to redeem. The rest of my Estate I give to my son Thomas, whome I make my Executor with his Mother during Widowhood ; and if she marry, to be sole Executor. Witness: Samuel Willis, Stephen Hosmore Ls.
