  1. Mr and Mrs. Thomas Hyland, who are leaving Eurack to reside in Colac, after being identified with the former district for over thirty years, were accorded a public farewell at the Eur- State school. The chairman, Mr. J. W.. Pierce, eulogised the guest of the evening for his many sterling qualities, and referred to him as the pioneer settler, of Eurack. He had taken a leading interest in every movement for the welfare of the district, and had been chairman of the school committee since its formation. After a programme of musical . numbers and speeches, Mr. Chandley, on behalf of the school committee presented Mr. Hyland with a pipe, while Mr. J. W; Pierce, on behalf of the residents of Eurack and adjacent districts, presented Mrs. Hyland with a silver hot water kettle on a stand, and a unique silver biscuit barrel, and Mr; Hyland with a suit-case: Mr. Hyland, in re- sponding, gave a brief sketch of his career at Eurack, and described how he came from Warrnambool thirty years ago to take up land at Eurack, where he had weathered bad seasons as well as enjoying the good ones. He regretted leaving Eurack and his many friends there,: but he had decided, in the interests of the younger members of his family, to take up his residence in Colac. He thanked them sincerely on behalf of Mrs. Hyland and himself for the warm-hearted manner in which- they had treated them.
