In the 1851 census, Ellen Moore (age 45) was living with her husband William (age 52, farmer), and children: Alexander (age 21, laborer), John (age 19, laborer), Agnes (age 13), Ellen (age 11), Margaret (age 7), and Barbara (age 3), in Trafalgar, Halton County, Canada West (Ontario).[1]
In the 1861 census, Helen More (age 55), was living with her husband William (age 61, farmer), and children: Margaret (age 16), and Barbara (age 13), in Southwold, Elgin, Canada West beside her son Alexander's family and farm. (Family is split on two pages). Their faith was Church of Scotland.[2]
Her married daughter Margaret died young in 1870. In the 1871 census Hellen More (age 65), was living with her husband William More (age 72) and her daughter Margaret and Samuel Glover's daughter Elizabeth Glover (age 8), in Southwold, West Elgin, Ontario.[3] Elizabeth stayed with Ellen when her husband William died in 1878 and they lived together next to Alexander's family in Southwold, Elgin. (Elizabeth later married after her grandmother Ellen died in 1887).
In the 1881 census, Ellen Moore (age 70, widowed), was living with her daughter Elizabeth (age 19), in Elgin, Ontario, Canada.[4]
She died October 28, 1887, likely in Elgin, Ontario, Canada. Ellen is buried in Hunter Cemetery in Elgin county Ontario, Canada and inscribed on her headstone is "Ellen/wife of William Moore/ 80 y 1 m".[5]
Below that is "Weep not for me my children/I am not dead but sleeping here/watch therefore for ye know not/what hour your Lord doth come/Math. 24:42"[6]
