Biography

Eliza was born in 1840 to Peter Butler Johnston (1802–1886) and Mary Ann C. Higginbotham (1813–1853). She is listed with her parents on both: the 1850 Census^[1] in Botetourt and the 1860 Census^[2] in Bedford, Virginia. On December 2, 1866 she married Jesse T. Owen.^[3] The couple are listed together on: the 1870 Census in Pike, Missouri^[4] on the 1880 Census in the home of her widowed father^[5] in Botetourt, Virginia and on the 1900 Census^[6] which indicates they had eight children with six still living at the time the 1900 Census was taken. Her husband passed away in 1904 and she passed away in 1919.^[7]
