See Barriault pp. 116-118, 128-129.
Barriault reports the following comment on origins of the surname JOUEY (p 129): "Morlet suggests that the Jouey patronmym, and its Jouy variant -- found especially in Aisne, in Eure-et-Loire, and in Yonne -- come from Gaudiacum, the name of a Gallo-Roman territory." (B's source: Morlet, Marie-Thérèse, 1998, Dictionnaire étymologique des nnoms de famille , Paris, Perrin, p 546.)
We have no record of the births of either spouse, Pierre Jouey or Marguerite LeMonnier, nor even of their only known offspring, Samson Jouey (who died August 1689, aged about 71), because the surviving records from their home parish at Angey date back only to 1689, while Pierre and Marguerite were undoubtedly born in the late 1500s, since Samson was born about 1618.
Barriault (pp 128-129) provides this note on the Jouey surname and possible kin connections: "The Jouey surname is very rare in the Champeaux records of the 17th century. Between 1613 & 1695, besides the marriage of Samson Jouey and Jeanne Gosse, we find only two other marriages of persons with this name: first, the marriage of Anne Jouey, daughter of Jacques Jouey and Françoise Turgot, with Guillaume LeCoq, son of Pierre LeCoq et Thomasse Girard (Champeaux register 11 Nov 1654); then, the marriage of [[Jouey-4 | Julienne Jouey, daughter of the late Pierre Jouey and Juliane de La Motte, from Angey parish, with Guillaume Gosse, son of Olivier Gosse and Dlle Jacqueline de La Hache (Champeaux register Thu 24 Oct 1675). A Samson Jouey appears as witness for both those marriages. In the case of the second marriage, the husband Guillaume Gosse was the first cousin of Jeanne Gosse, wife of Samson Jouey. Considering the rarity of the Jouey surname, we think that there are certainly other kin connections among these various members of the Jouey family, but we do not know them. The Angey register begins only in 1689."
Interestingly, Samson Jouey, son of Pierre Jouey and Marguerite LeMonnier, was one among the very few literate people of his time & place, as indicated by the image of his signature that accompanies his profile: click here.
Similarly, we have no information about when Pierre Jouey or Marguerite LeMonnier died.[1]
