In 1850, James A. Kidder, 38, farmer, and Susan Kidder, 30, were living at Alstead with Merrill Kidder, 6.[3]
In 1860, James A. Kidder, 48, farmer, and Susan Kidder, 40, were living at Alstead with Merrill J. Kidder, 16, farmer, Sarah A. Kidder, 8, and Abba M. Kidder, 1.[4]
In 1870, James A, Kidder, 57, farmer, and Susan Kidder, 50, were living at Alstead with Angie T. Kidder, 18, and Abbie M. Kidder, 11.[5]
In 1880, James A. Kidder, 68, farmer, and his wife, Susan P. Kidder, 60, were living at Alstead with their daughter Abbie M. Kidder, 21, teacher, and Susan's mother, Nancy Washburn, 85.[6]

James and Susan (Washburn) Kidder were the parents of four children, all born at Alstead, New Hampshire:[1]
James A. Kidder died from old age and consumption at Alstead, New Hampshire, on 12 Sep 1891, with his age at his death recorded as 79 years, 7 months, 21 days.[7]
