Biography

Eva Barbara Kissel was born in Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on 23 Nov 1746. In Aug 1762, she married Christian Tschudy, who was born 20 Apr 1741 in Warwick Township, Pennsylvania, and died on 3 Mar 1774 at Lititz, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The couple was admitted to communion in 1762 (probably in Muddy Creek) and accepted into the Moravian community in 1765 in Lititz and admitted to communion there in 1766. In Oct 1768 they moved to Lititz with their three children. Christian Tschudy died on 3 Mar 1774 at Lititz. Eva Barbara died a widow a year after her husband’s death of diphtheria on 7 Mar 1775 in Lititz. Her four children were living in Lititz, survived her, and all were recorded in the Lititz Moravian church records.^[1]

Children:

1. Anna Maria Tschudy was born on 6 Apr 1764 and baptized on 8 Apr at Warwick Township, She married John Frederick Metz in 1799 and later John Maehr. She died on 21 Jun 1821.
2. John Jacob Tschudy was born on 22 Aug 1766 at Lititz, baptized 24 Aug 1766 at the Lititz Moravian church. He died on 21 Dec 1788.
3. Christian Tschudy, Jr., was born on 2 Sep 1768, baptized 4 Sep, and died in 1840.
4. Matthias Gottfried Tschudy, their 4th child, was born on 9 Aug 1771 in Lititz and baptized 11 Aug in the Moravian church. He was a woolen weaver who married Catharina Blickensdorfer on 10 Jun 1798 and died in 1852.
