Biography
Funeral Services for Mr. Sarah Casey, 90 were held at St. Mary's church on Saturday, with Fr. David McGoey officiating. Mr. Casey, died on Wednesday last.
Mrs. Casey was born in Goulbourn Township, present day Richmond, which is a suburb of Ottawa, Carleton County, Ontario, Canada on October 20, 1857 to Michael Kitts and Margaret (Howie) Kitts. She came to this country while still a young woman and lived with her parents near Denison, Iowa until 1882. In that year she married Bernard Casey and moved to the Farm near Earling, Iowa. To this union six children were born. They are as follows: John and James of Kennebec, South Dakota; Joseph of Big Sandy, Montana; Mary (Mrs. Charles Spotts) of Veneta, Oregon; Bernard of Oakland, California and Mr. Margaret Beumer of Rock Valley, IA.
Survivors include her six children, 11 grandchildren and six great great grand-children. her husband preceded her in death in 1929. Mrs. Casey had made her home with her daughter Margaret here for the past 19 years. Those attending the funeral from out of town where James Casey and Mr. and Mrs. John Casey of Kennebec, SD. William Casey of Sioux City, IA, Francis Beumer of Hawthorne, CA, Mrs. Alan (Viva Jane) McCollum of Long Beach, CA. and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Wagner and Mrs. Matt Wagner of Sioux Falls, SD.
Sadly, the gravemarker is wrong. She was born October 11, 1850 and baptized at St. Philip's in Richmond, Carleton county, Ontario on February 25, 1851. Feb 25th 1851, The undersigned Priest baptised Sarah Janem, born on the 11th October last, legitimate daughter of Michael Kitt and Margaret Howe. The sponsors were John Byrne and Ellen Williers.
