Note N1085The information you have on my grandfather is incorrect. Johann Korner was born Dec 5, 1876. Possibly in Munich, Bavaria. He married Lena on May 28, 1896, in Chicago. He passed away in 1955 in Crystal lake, McHenry County, Illinois. I know this for a fact - I was at the funeral! I don't have the exact date but I'm working on finding his death certificate. Little is known about his life before he came to the United States. I would be happy if someone had a bit of family lore about him. The family story is that he left Bavaria to escape the conscription law and that he used his brother's papers. It's possible that Johann's real name is Alexander. My father said that Johann had a brother and two sisters in Germany. The sisters were nuns and I do not know if there were any other relatives. I can't find it right now but one of the trees I saw is incorrect. They list Frances Korner as the child of Pauline and John Korner Jr. Frances was my older sister. She was the child of my father and his first wife, Frances Jorgensen. On another census, a Kenneth Korner is listed as my father's child. To my knowledge, he was a nephew of Frances Jorgensen. My father was fond of him but his last name was not Korner. The confusion comes from the many people who lived at the same address at different times. My grandfather, John Korner Sr., had a two flat at 4736 North Maplewood in Chicago. Many of the family (all with similar names) lived there at one time or another. One of my favorite recollections is that during my childhood, four John Korners lived at that address and no one had a middle name! John Korner Sr, his son John Korner Jr, his grandson John Korner III and his great grandson John Korner IV! My grandson and I visited Immanuel Lutheran church in Dundee last summer ad hope to go again. We also visited one of the cemeteries there.
