Biography

Kathryn was born in 1917. She passed away in 2006.

HAGLER, Kathryn K. 88, Xenia, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2006 at Elmcroft of Xenia. She was born December 25, 1917, in Spring Valley, the daughter of Bernard and Isadora Murphy Kyne. She was a retired teacher and public servant committed to bettering the lives around her. After teaching for 35 years, she became the first Greene County Commissioner, where she served for five terms. She was the Chairperson of the United Way; member of all Greene County Chambers of Commerce; American Business Women's Association; Governor's Child Support Task Force; Miami Valley Regional Planning Association; Greene County VFW Auxiliary; Altruss International Club; Xenia Rotary; American Legion; Greene County Golden Age Senior Citizens; Xenia Elks; Blue Jacket Board of Directors; First Frontier Board of Directors; Ohio Retired Teacher's Association; Miami Valley Health Improvement Council, and member of St. Brigid Church. She won the S.L. Stephan Award in 1988, given by the Xenia Chamber of Commerce. She was inducted into the Greene County Women's Hall of Fame, in 1990; named the Senior Citizen of the Year by the Greene County Golden Age, in 1992; and honored with the Kathryn K. Hagler Family Violence Prevention Center; son the Paula J. MacIlwaine Award (G.E.D. program in the Greene County Jail), in 1994; former "First Lady of the Year" award from the Greene County Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi; won the Loretta Richards Distinguished Alumni Award, in 1999 at Mt. St. Joe College; and the prestigious E.J. Nutter Award in 2000, for lifetime service to the community. The Greene County Career Center and the Greene County Career Center Adult Education Scholarship Endowment Fund Inc. honored her February 7, 2002, for her lifetime commitment to education excellence in Greene County.

She is survived by a son, Peter K. Hagler, Enon; two grandchildren, Laura Hagler and Daniel Hagler; son-in-law, Dr. Andrew J. Manganaro; and sister Rita Hendrickson, Clearwater, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Joseph L. Hagler, September 30, 1976 and by her daughter, Rita Manganaro. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, with Rev. Kenneth Schartz officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Tuesday, at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the St. Brigid Memorial Program.
