Biography

It is uncertain when Mary Lee was born. A Harleian Society publication (Volume XXIX) containing a transcript of The visitation of Shropshire taken in 1623 [1] shows that Mary (‘Maria’) Lee, the daughter of Richard Lee ('Richardus Lee de Langley in Co. Salop Ar.') and Eleanor Wrottesley ('Elianora filia Walteri Wrotesley de Wrotesley in Com. Staff.') married Henry Vyner ('Henriei Vannor Vynor of Condoner').

We are told by John Burke [2] that her husband Sir Henry Vyner was the Great Grandfather of Mary Chivers (daughter of Rev, Oliver Chivers, prebendary of Sarum). Mary Chivers married Thomas Bythesea of Compton Bishop who was a member of the corporation of Axbridge in 1645 and a magistrate for the county of Wiltshire. By this marriage, the Week House estate came into the family of Bythesea. Of Sir Henry's four children, Mary married a son of Sir Thomas Bromley (of Cheshire). Sir Henry was the brother or Sir Richard Vyner Esq. of Langley, Salop who died without children in 1649 and the estates of Week House and Chapmanslade passed to his great nieces, Mary Bythesea and Susannah Lewis respectively by a deed of partition executed in 1666.

Mary passed away in 1593 and was buried on the 21st or 23rd of May 1593 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire [3]. The burial record confirms that she was the wife of Henry Viner.
