George was born on January 24, 1844 and baptized on May 9, 1844 according to the baptism records of St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester NS.[1] He was the son of John Levy and Catherine Barbara Gaetz. He married Sophia Rodenhiser in 1863 although the exact date appears uncertain. In the birth of Zenas in 1868, it states they were married on September 7, 1863 in Chester, whereas in the birth of Isaac Leonard in 1870, it states they were married on December 30, 1863 in Chester. George was born and lived all his life on Little Tancook Island, Lunenburg County where he was a fisherman and farmer.
George Levy (27) appears on the 1871 census with wife Sophia (28) and their family; Alexander (7), Augusta (5), Zenas (2) and Isaac (6 months). [2]
George Levy son of John Levy and ? Gates died at Little Tancook in 1926 at the age of 83 years. His death was attributed to Senility. The registration is signed by son Lewis Jollymore. [3] George is buried in the Little Tancook Island Cemetery.[4]
Sophia Levy daughter of John Rodenhizer and Lucy Slaunwhite died of Old Age in 1926 at Little Tancook. She was 85 years of age and the registration is signed by a Grandson, Lindsay Levy. She outlived her husband George by 106 days.[5]
