Johannes Gottlieb Liebig was born in 1852. He was the son of Johann Liebig and Johanne Koch.^[1]

Johannes passed away in 1870.^[2] He is buried at the Siegersdorf Cemetery, Dorrien, South Australia.^[3]

Research Notes

Johannes and his sister Ernestine share a headstone at the Seigersdorf Cemetery (see reference above). For Johannes, this headstone gives the years of birth and death as 1850 and 1868 respectively and an age at death of 17 years. The transcipts published by Genealogy SA put both birth and death as occuring two years later (the same day but a different year), but the age of death is again given as 17 years. The date of death for Johannes' sister Ernestine that appears on the headstone is similarly two years earlier than the date on the transcript proided by Genealogy SA.

While the headstone is clearly old, it is not certain that it is original.

It would be helpful if a way could be found to resolve this discrepancy. If the dates provided by Genealogy SA are correct, then the dates on the headstone are all likely to be incorrect, including the birth date for Ernestine. For the time being, for both Ernestine and Johannes, I have used the dates provided by Genealogy SA where they exist. Where there is no record at Genealogy SA, I have used the date on the headstone, notwithstanding that it is, overall, inconsistent with the Genealogy SA dates.
