Lydia Lock was born in West Cambridge, MA, in November 1736. She was the second child of Samuel Locke and Deborah Butterfield, who were both of Puritan ancestry. The family's surname is generally spelled "Locke," but her birth record and gravestone omit the "e."
Lydia died in January 1738, not long after her first birthday. (The location is given as Arlington, but it was probably part of West Cambridge at that time).
Samuel and Deborah Locke bestowed the name Lydia upon their next daughter, who was born the following year and lived well into adulthood.
