John was a famous musician and song writer who published many songs and performed with his musical group in many locations across the United States.
John was an American teacher, a pioneering musicologist and folklorist who did much for the preservation of American folk songs.
The Lomax family originally came from England in the 19th century when William Lomax settled in a colony in North Carolina. John Lomax was born in Goodman, Mississippi to James Avery Lomax and Susan Frances Cooper. In December 1869, the Lomax family traveled by ox cart from Mississippi to Texas.
He married Bess Brown on June 9, 1904, in Austin.
