Robert was born in 1923. He was the son of Howard Loop and Mabel Hayes.
Robert served in the Army Air Corp during World War II as a navigator on a B24 bomber. After the war, he enrolled in Edinboro State College, where he met his future wife. From Edinboro, he went to Ohio University and received a degree in Architectural Engineering and was a partner at Hallgren, Restifo, Loop and Coughlin Architects in Erie.
He married Zelma Ann Peterson (1929–2017).
He passed away in 2017. Buried at Edinboro Cemetery, Edinboro, Erie County, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in by three brothers, Herbert, Charles and Frederick; and a sister, Helen Golab.
Survivors included his wife of 69 years, Zelma; a daughter, Denise (Dean) Gossman; a son, William Scott (Sue) Loop; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Simpson.
