Queenie May Lukey was born in 1902 in Echuca, Victoria, Australia, the daughter of Lilian Alice Lukey and Francis Daniel Lukey. [1]
She firstly married Hardy Meredith, [2] however, she was granted a divorce when it was found that Meredith was a bigamist. [3] [4]
She then married Joseph Walker in 1927.[5]
Bigamist Punished.
Before Mr Justice Schutt in the Criminal Court yesterday, Hardy Lancelot Meredith, aged 25 years, salesman, pleaded guilty to a charge of bigamy. Meredith, it was stated, was first married in September 1923, and in February 1925, he went through the form of marriage with another woman at Collingwood, knowing his wife to be alive. He was arrested at Cooma (N.S.W.) on December 31. Mr Chelton (for the defence) said that Meredith was separated from his wife. No serious wrong had been suffered by either woman. Mr Justice Schutt said that It appeared that Meredith had deserted his wife, although she was apparently not affected by his subsequent conduct. A comparatively light sentence would be imposed. Meredith was sentenced to imprisonment, with hard labour, for six months.
