Dwight was born in 1896 in Placerville, California. He was the son of Horace Lydell and Mary Miller. He married Alida Hendicks in 1921 in Los Angeles and they had one child, Janet Mayda. He passed away in 1984 and is buried in Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora, California.
His obituary, printed in the Monrovia News Post read as follows:
Dwight M. Lydell, a longtime resident of the area, died Dec. 17 at the age of 87. He had been the superintendent of Monrovia Schools for 22 years, and very active in the community.
A member of the Kiwanis Club for over 50 years, he was a past president of the Monrovia Club, former lieutenant governor and a founder of the Arcadia Kiwanis Club, where he was a member for approximately 15 years. He was also active in the Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of Chico State College, with post-graduate studies at Claremont an U.S.C. he was a member of various educational organizations.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Perry Jones and grandson, Chris Jones, all of San Gabriel. Private memorial services were held Wednesday at Douglass and Zook Mortuary Chapel, Monrovia, with private inurnment at Oakdale Memorial Park.
