He leaves a widow and large grown-up family.
1904:- GENERAL. On Monday, 17th inst., at Eldorado, Victoria, there passed away from earth, at the ripe old age of 70, Mr. Alexander Sidney Madew, late of Adelong and brother-in-law to Mrs. P. Cruise, of Tumut. Deceased took bad on Thursday night, and, being in a fit, he woke his wife up and had 12 fits in succession. On Friday morning he rallied. On Saturday he rose from his bed and had breakfast with his family, and was about, apparently in good health, all day. He went to bed early on Saturday night, not feeling too well, and took 58 fits from Saturday night till Monday morning at 4 a.m., when he died. He had not been the same since his daughter Grace died on Aug. 26 last. The night she was buried he told them all at the tea table he would not be long after her. The funeral took place on the 18th inst., and was very largely attended. Mrs. Cruise was present. Deceased leaves a sorrowing wife, eight daughters and one son to mourn their loss. We tender the bereaved ones our deepest sympathy. (note:- His daughter, Grace Adelong Madew, died from a very severe attack of peritonitis, at the age of 21 years).
