Biography

James Mahanay was a Missourian.
James Mahanay was a Texan.

James Emmett Mahanay was born on October 15, 1897 in Vichy, Maries County, Missouri. [1]

At age 2, James lived in Johnson, Maries County, Missouri. [2] Sometime when he was just a small child, the family moved to Texas. In 1910, he lived on Sledgefield and Pleasant Road in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas. This is where he would spend the remainder of his youth growing up. [3]

When he was 20 years old, he still lived at home working on the family farm in Johnson County. As a young man, he had a medium physical appearance, medium height, light colored hair and blue eyes. [4]

Emmett married Lillian Irene Honea on April 28, 1927 in Harris County, Texas. [5] The following year his daughter Martha Joe was born. In 1930, he lived on Weaver Street in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas. He rented his home for $8 dollars a month. The family owned a radio set, considered a luxury item of the time. He worked as a salesman in the oil industry. [6] James continued to live in Avarado the following decade. He owned his own home now. We worked in sales like his past, except now he was working for himself as an agent in the wholesale and retail oil industry. He also employed others to work for him. [7]

In 1942, Emmett continued to live in Avarado, Texas. He worked for the Sinclair Refining Company in the same town. At age 44, he stood five feet and eleven inches tall, weighed about 175 pounds, and had a light brown complexion with blonde hair and blue eyes. On his registration draft card, he indicated one foot was shorter than the other, perhaps an indication he had polio during his development years. [1]

James died on October 22, 1953 in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas. [8] He was buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas. [9]
