Biography

Mildred Miriam was born on 13 December 1900 at Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, the daughter of James Mallin and Julia Mallin formerly Swain. Her date of birth was recorded in the 1939 Register. ^[1]

In the 1901 census the Mallin family was living at 41A Rowley Village, Rowley Regis. Mildred was aged 3 months. ^[2]

In 1911 Mildred was living with her parents and siblings at White Heath Rd, Rowley Regis. She was aged 10 years. ^[3]

In the 1921 census Mildred was still living with her parents at Whiteheath, Blackheath [Rowley Regis, Staffordshire]. Aged 20, she was a clerk at Messrs W. J. Myatt co. Ltd., silversmiths and jewellers in Birmingham. ^[4]

Mildred Miriam Mallin married John Calloway on 28 November 1921 at St. Paul’s Church, Blackheath, Worcestershire. Their marriage certificate recorded John was a bachelor aged 26 and a brick burner. His father was named as John Calloway (deceased), a brick burner. Mildred was a spinster aged 20 and a clerk. Her father was named as James Mallin, an engineer. At the time of their marriage John was living at Bulls Head Inn, Whiteheath, Blackheath and Mildred at Whiteheath, Blackheath. Their witnesses were James Mallin and Elsie Freda Rowley, John's half sister. ^[5]

This couple had two children named John born 1922 and Gwendoline Grace born 1924.

The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time Mildred and John were residing at 52 Whiteheath, Blackheath, Rowley Regis. John, born 11 October 1895, was aged 43. He was a publican. Mildred, born 13 December 1900, was aged 38. Son John, born 23 April 1922, was aged 17. He was working as a trailer fitter. The record for daughter Gwendoline remains closed at this time [2022]. ^[6]

John Calloway died in 1942 aged 46 years. ^[7]

Mildred Miriam Calloway died in 1975 aged 74 years. ^[9]
