Biography

Probably born circa 1710, Gosberton, Lincolnshire, England the son of John and Mary Manby. Baptised 16 Oct 1710, Gosberton, Lincolnshire, England. ^[1]

Augustine became a surgeon in New Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England. Marrying Ann SUTTON, 21 Aug 1743, St Andrew, Sempringham, Lincolnshire.^[2] After she died in1760, he married Elizabeth CARDRON, 14 Oct 1760, St Denys, Sleaford, Lincolnshire^[3]

Augustine died 1768, and was buried 22 Oct 1768, St Denys, Sleaford, Lincolnshire ^[4]

Research Note

He possibly served in the navy, and after being captured in Havana, Cuba, was sent to Spain as a slave, before being freed, and returning to England. For which trials, he received compensation from the King. ^[5] Note: This needs further confirmation, as there were other Augustine Manbys in this era, and it is more likely that this was one of them.
